One of the highest-paid home-based enterprises on the market is web development. Still, to reach the big money, you must have technical knowledge in computer languages such as HTML and JavaScript. While this isn’t something you can learn overnight, there’re so many online courses you can take and see if this works for you. That is if you’re motivated and determined to learn. On average, the salary of a web developer ranges between $36,000 and $80,000. The ever-growing demand for qualified candidates is pushing the payout even higher.
A squeeze page is a non-technical term for a lead capture page, almost like a slang reference to this particular marketing tool. You have to be able to create a website or blog, and on a page that you create, you will have an offer along with a subscribe box so that people can join your newsletter, or simply enter in their email, by which to get the free gift. The only way that this can work effectively, and continually, is to consistently send potential leads to the page itself.
Obviously, this is the most relevant marketing KPI in a lead generation context, as this is exactly what is all comes down to. The definition of a lead varies from one company to another. For your business, if a lead consists of someone starting a free trial of your product, the number of leads is the total number of people who found your product interesting enough to try it for free.
How to Get It: Begin with sites like UserTesting.com, YouEye.com and Userlytics.com. Register with multiple companies for opportunities to test as many websites as possible. Once you're in the system, you'll be emailed when testers are needed, and if you're one of the first to respond, expect to spend 15 to 20 minutes completing the test. Many sites require a microphone and/or webcam, which are built into most laptops—but if you need to buy one, they aren't expensive. The tester sites typically pay within a week or two via PayPal.
Social networks are a hot spot for work-at-home danger. One company called Easy Tweet Profits claims you can make up to $873/day online. They even claim one person earned $400,000/year using their method of tweeting your way to success. The catch? By signing up for their program you agree to be charged just under $50 per month! There are a whole host of other companies with similar names (usually involving “make money” or “make profits”) that suggest social networking can be a cash cow. But their game is all the same: Whether you’re talking about something you see on Craigslist, eBay, Facebook, Twitter or whatever’s the next hot thing, you’ve got to be wary.
Form length – there can be a tradeoff here. The trick is to find a middle ground. Too short of a form might mean anyone and everyone signs up – even if that means they aren’t a serious customer down the road. Too long of a form and you risk abandonment. People might not be willing to spend too much time on it. So ask what you need to ask, and maybe save the finer detailed questions for later on.
And don’t forget social media as a home-based business. Many churches, other non profit charities, and business owners NEED to advertise via social media. You can either be hired to do theirs or become a consultant who trains their staff. Many churches don’t know the Internet laws like an avid social media user does. They’ll need someone to teach them how to use social media and protect their organization while doing it. Ask me how I know. 😉 My husband and I have worked with some organizations who refused to listen and they ended up with some scandals. Take a gander at what happened to Pastor Alios Bell’s ministry reputation when someone who knows social media happened upon her indiscretion at Applebee’s. Google it. It went viral.
No matter what your business, your brochures should help bring in profitable business … yet most brochures fail miserably. You therefore need to know how to create professional brochures and fliers that sell for you by educating your prospects and customers about the benefits you offer and also addresses their questions and their needs for your product or service.

Also, make sure you’re up-to-date on CPR, first aid and other emergency procedures. Then make sure your own kids are OK with sharing their home every day. Once all of that is wrapped up, go to your friends and neighbors, your kids’ teachers, your place of worship and anywhere else busy parents are looking for day-care services, and get your word out.

How can you make a living as a real social-media expert? Practice. Build an audience for yourself before offering your services to others. Determine your target sector, build your own online presence in that community and start making contact with the social-media elite. Twitter is a great place to start. Keep cranking out content and getting it to the right users, and you’ll find a way to get yourself hired even in an ever-expanding universe.
Driving for one of the two globally expanding app-centric taxi alternative services, Uber or Lyft can still be a fairly lucrative way to earn money as a side business idea on nights and weekends—working only when you want. But before you dive head first into this side business idea, do your homework and calculate the costs of extra gas, mileage, tires, wear & tear and usage on your vehicle—it’s not one of the best guaranteed business ideas that’ll turn a significant profit every weekend, though.
Many of the same concepts that apply to making gift baskets or arranging flowers also apply here, but this time you’ll be putting people’s names on the things you send them. Personalization is especially hot for any sort of kids’ item, so don’t be afraid to be creative with the products you offer to personalize. Good photography, a good Website and some crafty skills will come in handy here.
I kind of “fell into” my at home business. I was a customer of their website division a few years ago. When my husband got downsized – I closed my business and started working with my current company. It’s been such a blessing to be able to stay at home (2 girls in elementary school) and help contribute to our family. When our company started another division helping non-profits with alternative funding – it was something I was passionate about. I feel very blessed to have found the real deal with my at home businesses and in the two years I’ve been with them – it all keeps getting better.

This means that you will have to do some form of advertising in order to get people to that page. If you have ever tried to advertise on Google to attempt this type of lead capture strategy, you will quickly find that your campaigns are shut down. We will does not like squeeze pages, and therefore you will have to advertise in a completely different way. It used to be available on Facebook, but not so much anymore. The alternative to this is called media buying.
Newsletter – People like to subscribe to newsletters as a way of keeping up with their favorite brands. Or to learn about specific things in the industry. Most newsletters will lead them to other insightful content, or the brand’s latest content, which is why they choose to subscribe! Even better is this type of lead is expecting you to email them!
There’s also (of course) now an app for this side business idea. It’s called Bellhops, and you can quickly sign up to start working as a mover almost right away (after going through their application process). The best part about using Bellhops is that they already have customers booked and ready to schedule their moves, meaning you can pretty much get a steady stream of moving jobs depending upon your location, just by signing up and setting the hours that you’re available.

Rather than partner with another health and/or fitness company for their cross-promotion campaign, Hydrate IV Bar partnered with an eyelash extension company. They decided after considering all the different places their target customers might be available to try an IV bar. Now anyone that visits Live Love Lash for their eyelash appointment can also receive a B-12 shot, MIC Shot, and/or IV treatment:
It’s not the sort of side business idea that’s covered in glory, but someone needs to make sure all the numbers add up at the end of the year. Every business and most individuals need someone with the domain expertise to help prepare tax returns, especially time or resource-strapped small business owners. Majo Jacinto in his Udemy course provides an in-depth foundational understanding of how to prepare tax returns (and stay current with ever-changing laws) that’ll certify you with tax prep skills in as little as a few hours of training and practice.  Then once tax season rolls around you’ll be able to charge an average of $229 per return as a freelance tax preparer with these kinds of side business ideas, according to CNBC.

There’s a huge growing market for mobile phone accessories, and plenty of handmade sellers are raking in 6 and sometimes 7 figures from their phone case businesses. You can get your own phone case business up and running as a side business idea in a matter of days with turnkey solutions from Case Escape, my previous company, and you can now get ready-to-go kits that’ll give you everything you need to start a phone case business. Once you’re up and running, you can sell cases on Etsy and Amazon Handmade. During our first year of selling phone cases as one of our side business ideas on our Etsy store, we made around $60,000 in revenue from that selling channel alone—not to mention additional sales from fairs, trade shows, promotional products vendors, parties, events and other online marketplaces. From there, the sales only continued growing and we graduated from side business idea to full-time company that I ran with my best friend for multiple years.
Even the portrait and general-interest options, though, aren’t really for beginners. Photography businesses can be complex operations, with lots of equipment required and years of portfolio and relationship building necessary to really get steady income flowing. Still, if you’re a hobbyist already, starting a photography business as a side operation is a great way to make some extra money and possibly begin a career change.
Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Yuletide, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, 4th of July, Mother’s Day. There are a ton of traditional holidays that count as solid reasons to explore the side business idea of crafting and selling seasonal decorations. After all, people and businesses pay good money for them. In fact, total sales of Christmas trees in the U.S. alone amounted to a whopping $1.04 billion in 2014. And you still have holiday lights, nativity scenes, crafted hangings, baskets, wreaths, and other decorations to cover, making this a potentially year-round seasonal side business idea.
Enjoy freelance writing? Your skill may lead to a home-based business as a professional blogger. It helps if you can make posts look attractive through photography and graphic design. You make money by blogging for corporate clients who pay for your services. Or run Google AdSense ads, or insert affiliate marketing links to get paid whenever someone buys through your link.

Not everything is just a Google search away. Media organizations hire fact checkers to make sure that items in stories are accurate and that sources quoted really exist. Other organizations need people to find statistics and other data for presentations and reports. There are plenty of opportunities online to get started researching at home. Just be prepared to get into some really esoteric topics that will take you way beyond Wikipedia.

I mean come on, who wouldn’t be interested in business ideas that let you spend time with puppies? Getting paid to take care of a cute pup sounds like a dream. The prevalence of unattended pets is another side effect of busy life, creating job business ideas and opportunities for people with time, patience, and affection to spare. Just check out DogVacay and Rover to see what I mean. Would the payout be worth it if you try? One person in New York earns $3,300 a month just pet-sitting for busy animal lovers as his side business idea.

What It Pays: Though it varies widely by company, you'll likely be paid per post or hourly. Factors that could increase or decrease the pay scale include word count, research, interviewing an expert, and more. Many freelancers are full-time, but if you're looking for a side-hustle to make some weekend money, this is a great option too. According to Pay Scale, the average salary for a freelance writer is about $24/hr.
Then you can move on to more immersive sales education through online courses like Sales Training and Prospecting on Udemy, The Guide to Pitching and Selling Clients on CreativeLive. Once you’re ready to put your selling skills to the test, check out Angel List and see if any sales position opportunities align with your interests—the last thing you want to do is get stuck selling products or services you’re not interested in. However, by starting out your sales career as a side business idea, that gives you the flexibility to easily change courses if you ever need to.
Phony job listings on legit job-hunting websites. One fraudulent group was listing fake jobs on CareerBuilder, which is an otherwise respectable site. The group was charging a big fee for a background check before consideration of any applicants. Federal, state and local authorities received more than 17,000 complaints filed by people who were ripped off by this particular group. And that’s just the number of people who found their way to complain. Who knows how many others were taken?
Similar to selling on Amazon, eBay is a place to make money selling just about anything you can think of as a side business idea, with the added excitement of using the auction selling model to sometimes get way more than you expected for that antique baseball card you picked up at a local street fair. To turn your eBay selling into a legitimate business idea, look for opportunities where you can buy in-demand products at a discount—and later sell them for a profit. Eventually, you can even take the lessons learned from your eBay store and build a full on blog or eCommerce business.
B2B marketing must generate results that help the business grow. Too many marketers focus on metrics that have little significance to business growth. Ironpaper focuses on outcomes, specifically creating and engaging qualified leads. To do this, our work crosses boundaries. Our work lives at the intersection of account-based and inbound marketing; creative decision making and data-driven analysis.
More than 90,000 residential remodeling professionals — of which 100% are authorized to purchase and specify materials — rely upon the editorial integrity of Pro Remodeler magazine. Together with Professional Builder, the publications' print and digital offerings have earned several prestigious recognitions, including the Jesse H. Neal Award for excellence in business journalism, a Multiplatform Presentation of the Year Award and Website of the Year Award from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE).
Create an arsenal of cleaning products that can clean almost every kind of product (paint, chalk, markers) from every kind of surface (cement, wood, pavement). The best way to conduct a graffiti service is to offer a subscription-like arrangement. Once a month or whatever interval makes sense for your clients, go around to their property and clean off the graffiti. Charge them a monthly or quarterly fee and make it simple for everyone--they don't have to think about graffiti, and you just do your job.
To be a consultant, you need to have expertise in something so you can market yourself as an advisor to others looking to work in that area. Perhaps you managed several large warehouses in your career with a drugstore company, you did all the marketing for many years for a large shoe manufacturer or you set up a chain of beauty supply shops or take-out restaurants. You can use this experience to help others do similar things without making the same mistakes that you made along the way. A good calendar app will likely come in handy as time tracking is crucial to accurate billing.
In the following article, we will go through the definition of lead generation, learning how to calculate cost per lead (CPL), examining which type of costs need to be included in the calculation, learning what the average cost per lead is, studying which factors influence the total lead cost, seeing how many leads you need to hit your revenue goal, determining the best lead providers and their prices.
One of the best and most successful home-based businesses available today is a personal fitness trainer. Of course, to become one, you need to have the physical abilities for it. You don’t even have to own a gym or too much equipment. Training somebody from the comfort of your home requires essentials like a yoga mat, kettlebells, adjustable dumbbells, and resistance bands. On average, personal fitness trainers earn $20 an hour.
Like graphic design, Web design requires skills that can take years to acquire and perfect. But if you have them, the market is there for creating attractive, useful Web sites for all sorts of organizations. Starting a Web-design business does require some up-front investment, particularly in software, although candidates to start Web-design firms might have those applications already.
A continuous stream of leads means that you have a platter to select from where you get to choose with clients that you like. When businesses suffer due to a lack of revenue, there is usually some problem associated with their lead generation methods. While there are a lot of methods that businesses can use to generate leads, it makes sense to use just 2-3 channels so that you can be really good at it and reap the maximum benefit from it.
Of those 2,000 people were planning on downloading the paper, you’ll likely get more of them to download your whitepaper with a shorter form, but you’ll have less information to qualify those leads later. Online form builder Formstack once found that reducing the number of form fields to four or under increases conversions by 160 percent. That’s huge.
It’s one of the first ideas people have when they think of starting a business: making and selling crafts. That means there’s lots of competition. The good news, though, is that people just love crafts. But be careful. Don’t just sell anything and everything. Define a product line and choose a distribution channel (online, craft fairs, etc.), and stick with your plan. And, of course, be creative.
Why it matters: While LinkedIn is the social behemoth for B2B leads, Instagram continues to rise in the ranks of B2C lead generation. It may be third in the line (behind Facebook and Twitter) in terms of social media usage, but its one billion-person audience is anything short of minuscule. The potential market of social media users is large, but the competition is just as fierce. To convert those readers, you’ll need a strong social media strategy to gain a following and drive new customer acquisition.
The most effective marketing and sales professionals know which lead generation tools to use, and when to use them. These tools can help automate or enhance a range of tasks that will attract more leads than ever before. Also, consider implementing a callback solution to convert your website visitors into customers by offering them an immediate conversation with a real human. Make your leads wow and happy.
Dogs are amazing. But, owners aren’t always at home to take them for a walk. If you’re a canine fan like I hope you are, this great side business idea can net you a regular profit by just taking some adorable pups for a stroll around the park. With 70% of Americans having pets in their homes, dog walking services have become a thriving industry in some U.S. cities. In fact, there’s already an app called Wag that links up dog walkers who want to exercise this business idea with the pet owners who need a helping hand.
And by now you probably already know… one of the lowest cost (and most attainable) business ideas you can start working on right now is launching a blog of your own. For that reason, I recently put together a free guide that breaks down how to start a blog and I share the exact strategies I’ve used to turn my blog into a more than $50,000/mo business.
College counsellors come in all shapes and sizes. Their primary duty is to help guide students through an important period in their lives. Some counselors focus on admissions, career advice, financial aid, athletics, extracurricular activities, and other concerns. There are institutions looking out for part-time college counselors, making this a fantastic side business idea, or you can even start your own practice and charge anywhere from $25-$100+ per hour for your consultative services if you’re well-versed on the subject.

Qualifying leads involves giving them a score based on their level of interest and engagement in your product and ultimately, their readiness to make a purchasing decision. It’s an important way to identify the best prospects as part of the lead generation process, so that your sales reps can focus on selling quickly to those who are ready to buy immediately.

The best way to do this is to work with the media buying group that will actually show your offer in places where your free gift and offer will be applicable to those visiting the page. Some of them have exceptional technology, allowing you to choose your demographic looking at a multitude of variables so that you can get the exact visitors that you want.
Ghostwriting pays pretty well, and if you’re talented at researching and creating great content within a certain subject domain, you can quickly build a roster of high-paying clientele with these kinds of business ideas. Ghostwriters like Jeff Haden have created very lucrative careers for themselves by writing for business executives and CEO’s—and Jeff also started his ghostwriting career as a side business idea outside of his full-time job as a factory manager. Listen to his interview with me on The Side Hustle Project (podcast) right here. It’s a grind getting to a place where you can earn a full-time living from ghostwriting, but if you stick with it and bounce back from your defeats, you’ll make it.

The children’s birthday party business is a multiple-million dollar industry, with the average American spending $500 per party. The book Start Your Own Kid-Focused Business tells you everything you need to know to get your own kid biz off the ground: from insurance costs to food and beverage selection to arranging unforgettable entertainment that gets lots of smiles and lots of referrals from happy customers.

If you’re thinking about starting your own home-based business, the available options can seem overwhelming. What type of business is the best fit for your background, skills, and interests? If you don’t have a lot of initial capital to invest, which ones can be started at a low cost? And, most important, which home business has the best chance of succeeding, especially with the U.S. economy still on the rebound?

Whether it’s written content like ebooks and blog posts or video content formatted as how-to’s and webinars, you have a chance to provide informational content to aid and educate website visitors. Most users online use search engines to retrieve information so creating content based around your target audience’s questions will not only help provide them with answers and action items, but help increase your visibility online.
People love to spend weekends rummaging through tables full of other people's unwanted items, looking for treasures. Make sure to change your layout and put new stuff out for sale often. You want people to come back time and again to see what's new. You don't even have to have that much new stuff to make things look new. Just moving an item from a table to the top of a bookshelf might get it noticed, even though the item has been in your inventory since you first started having sales.
Expertise is another matter, but remember that writing can take many forms—from resumes to news articles to marketing materials and even thank-you notes. (You can even write for businesstown.com, although that gig doesn’t pay … yet.) There’s probably some form of writing you’re qualified to do. Plus, if you’re good enough with grammar and punctuation, companies will pay you to be a freelance editor. One friend made good money editing posts on a popular travel site.
